Background
Following the success of her first title, Yarn Bombing: The Art of Crochet and Knit Graffiti, Leanne created this collection of artist interviews, embroidery technique, history and contemporary embroidery projects.
Process
Loosely based on the design and format of the previous title, I iterated and developed more distinct solutions to presenting the different types of information in this book while keeping it clean but fun.
• created distinct styles for artist interviews
• simplified chapter openers (created in collaboration with author who embroidered the chapter numbers)
• developed easy-to-find project pages (bleed off page tabs, project names in tabs, at-a-glance project thumbs next to titles)
• put colour swatches next to embroidery floss names for quicker colour identification
Results
This book won the Alcuin Society Book Design Award winner (1st place, reference books) and also earned the Library Journal Best Book of the Year.
